Moss Nest was the florist for Shelley and Owen’s gorgeous South Coast NSW wedding, described in this article originally published by Hitched Magazine on 4 June 2013. All photographs are by Red Berry Photography.
Purely through chance, Shelley was able to secure a lift home one night with her husband-to-be after a night out with her girlfriends. Only a number of days later did Shelley realise that she had accidentally left a small make-up bag in Owen’s car. Upon the make-up’s return, and accompanied by a rather friendly 45 minute chat, Shelley was left wanting to ask to ask Owen out to dinner.‘With some strategic contact over a 2-3 week period, I was able to convince him to come to dinner with me to my favourite little Mexican Restaurant…. He certainly made me work hard for that date, but both of us later agreed that it was that night that made us both realised how compatible we were. He wasn’t even scared off by my jalapeño addiction! That’s love’ said Shelley.
Two years after their first date, on a sunny afternoon on the sands of Callala Bay, where his family has a holiday house, Owen got down on one knee and asked Shelley to spend the rest of her life with him. Of course, she said yes!
Shelley had no idea what kind of wedding gown she wanted, the only thing she knew for sure was that it wasn’t going to be a strapless one.
‘The girls at Brides by Francesca were so amazing that I knew whatever dress I was going to get, I was going to get through them. They ended up ordering me in the Pronovias Dia gown, and I fell in love with it. My mum bought the Swarovski belt while she was in Turkey, and the length of my mother in laws veil was perfect with the train of my dress’ said Shelley.
On the styling of her reception Shelley said, ‘Merribee is such a beautiful property; so we wanted to compliment it, not compete with it. Our table settings were simple bundles of twigs, and vintage vases filled with assorted flowers. And plenty of candles! We had lots of fairy lights outside the marquee; it was just beautiful at night’.Shelley and Owen are all about having fun. They wanted a relaxed day full of love and good times. They wrote their own vows which made for a very intimate, loving ceremony. When talking about this special moment in their day Shelley said, ‘so many of our guests said it was one of the most beautiful ceremonies they had been to’.
When asked to offer one piece advice to other couples getting married Owen said ‘Laugh. Laugh at everything that doesn’t go to plan. And have people around you with a good sense of humour too!’.
Thank you Shelley and Owen for allowing us to share your special day on the Hitched blog.
